Vitamin A - Too Little Or Too Much Can Be Dangerous

also deteriorate.
Natural resources are liver; cod liver oil, eggs, milk and dairy products, broccoli,
spinach and other green, leafy vegetables, carrots, turnips and other yellow
vegetables, apricots and cantaloupe. The carotene content of wet vegetables, either
fresh or cooked, was always significantly greater than that of dried ones. Fresh
vegetables have more carotene than dried beans, potatoes or rice. The best part
about carotene is that it's usually not converted into vitamin A unless the body really
needs more of the vitamin. It's just burned as food energy or passes on through the
body.
Therefore, you can eat a lot of carotene and not suffer from the bad effect you
would from eating too much. Your body would get all the benefits without any
dangers. Overdoses of vitamin A can be caused by eating too much animal liver over
a period of several weeks. But usually overdoses are the result of high doses of
vitamin supplements. Older people who take too much intake of vitamin A maybe at
increased risk. Adult taking repeated high daily doses have complained of harmful side
effects like buildup of pressure within the skull, vomiting, irritability, peeling of skin,
loss of hair, dry and itching skin. Mega doses can cause a toxic reaction or even, in
rare cases, death.
This vitamin is a fat-soluble. That means it dissolves in body fat. Because of that, it
can be stored in the body for a long time, unlike water-soluble that are quickly
flushed out of the body by the kidneys.
The liver can store up to a two years supply of vitamin A, so the amount of these
vitamins can become extremely high over many years. The good news is that most
bad symptoms will go away when the high doses are stopped. In some cases
permanent damage does occur, but usually if the overdose can be diagnosed, and
the additional vitamins eliminated, the recovery will be quite rapid.
