ADHD and Fish Oil Studies - The Findings Are Clear

These nutrients are important in the development of the brain and nervous system
from conception on. But since a lot of mothers are deficient in these nutrients, the
children are too. Nutritionists agree, most Westerners are incredibly deficient in these
nutrients.  The deficiency affects our brains, hearts, nervous systems and even
eyesight. And it can lead to ADD or ADHD.

If your child has been diagnosed with adhd, simply upping your child's omega 3 intake
could alleviate the need for medications. One study showed children who took fish
supplements with omega 3 for three months had improved test scores. These
children showed substantial improvements in behavior, reading and spelling too.

Other studies have found the same. In fact, one school found these supplements so
beneficial, they wanted to give them to all their students in order to boost test
scores and concentration levels. Many parents have reported noticeable
improvements in their children with ADHD once they started them on a fish oil
supplement.

And, they've had no side effects. By contrast, Ritalin, the commonly prescribed ADHD
drug, has been linked to depression, suicidal thoughts and hallucinations. Fish oil
studies show it's safe and effective. Plus it has a high level of the necessary DHA and
EPA fatty acids. Studies show concentrated fish oil has nearly 60% or even more of
these nutrients.

The only thing is you want to find a supplement free from toxins. You can reduce the
risk of exposing your child to supplements with mercury or PCB's by reading the
labels.

Look for supplements made from tuna, cod, salmon or other species specific fish.
Some manufacturers use an assortment of fish and label "marine life" or something
similar on the bottle. The problem with this is you don't know where this "marine life"
came from.

Some manufacturers are very conscientious about the source of their fish. They'll
even share with you the lab report so you know you're getting the highest quality.
