How Much Sleep Does a Person Really Need?

differences in what the body is doing. One type of person might require more repair
on the body during the night especially if fighting off a sickness. This is why it's difficult
to tell how much sleep a person actually needs.

If you want to determine how much sleep you need, one of the best ways to test
this is to wake up at the same time each morning. Whenever the alarm rings, get up.
After doing this for a few weeks, you will start to feel tired when you are actually
tired for that night and some nights you might not need as much sleep as others.

Most people try to get a certain amount of sleep by going to bed at the same time,
but doing the reverse and having a set wake up time helps the body have a more
natural cycle where you can go to sleep tired versus going to sleep for the sake of
getting a good night's rest.

If you are using substances like sleeping pills to fall asleep and caffeine to wake up,
you are not in your body's natural sleep cycle and won't be getting the rest that you
need. For someone with night shifts, this is understandable. For others, it's best to
start getting into your natural sleep cycle and getting off substances that a healthy
adult doesn't really need.
