The Link Between Omega 3 and Acne

It is a known fact that omega 3 fats are good for the skin. They provide relief to inflammation and also act as an effective medicine for acne. Because of this reason omega 3 and acne are very much related to each other.

Dermatologists advise consumption of adequate amounts of fatty acids through diet or nutritional supplements to cure age-old acne. Good amounts of these fats are provided by fatty fish like salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel and hoki. In addition to this, flax seed oil and sesame seeds also contain fairly good levels of these fats and are good for the skin.

It is advisable not to consume vegetable oils in large amounts at once. This is because these oils promote inflammation and may lower blood pressure significantly. Furthermore, oils like corn oil, coconut oil, peanut oil and cottonseed oil also contain some saturated fat content that might not be good for some people.

The best alternative is provided by these capsules available on the market. Many people cure their acne problem by consuming these capsules on a regular basis and therefore omega 3 and acne are strongly linked together.

Flax seed oil provides a long-chain fatty acid known by the name of ALA. This fatty acid is broken down into DHA and EPA which are short-chain fatty acids (found primarily in fish oil) and is then utilized by the bloodstream. Flax seed oil is good for people who are allergic to fish, are unable to digest it, or those who want to lose weight and control their cholesterol levels.

It has been found that the Western diet is composed of very low levels of omega 3 fats. Because of this reason many people (particularly teenagers) suffer from acne living in these regions of the world. They need to increase their intake by eating foods like beans, nuts, seafood, fish, tofu, omega 3 enriched eggs, and plant oils.

Avocados also contain good amounts of fats and they can be added to everyday diet. In addition to this, it is advisable to add good quality fish oil supplements to diet to ensure that requirements of these fats are fulfilled. The recommended ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fats should be 3:1.

Always buy pharmaceutical grade fish oil which is clinically tested and approved for consumption. Also try to eat a well-balanced diet and exercise on a regular basis to ensure that all nutrients are absorbed and used properly by the bloodstream.
