How Atkins Diet Can Help Ward Off Diabetes
by Pauline Go
the ones that will cause the pancreas to release more insulin. It has been found that
an average American diet consists of carbohydrates and sugars that are list high on
the glycemic index and therefore, these are the foods that are bound to lead to
diabetes in the long term.

While children are more apt to digest these foods easily, they can still end up
suffering from mood swings and/or weight gain. However, adults cannot digest foods
high in sugars and processed carbohydrates and this will reflect on the blood sugar
levels.

It has been seen that most people who are overweight also have insulin resistance.
This means that the insulin is unable to remove the sugar or glucose from the blood.
The pancreas ends up releasing high amounts of insulin to combat the high sugar
levels and this can at times cause the blood sugar to fall dangerously low. However,
it is all these factors that lead the body to produce adrenalin so that the blood sugar
level is stabilized. Gradually, this leads to a condition known as hyperinsulinism, which
is a condition that leads to diabetes type II. In this condition, the person will suffer
from high blood pressure and triglyceride levels. If the condition is not corrected, it
develops into full-blown diabetes type II.

However, you can avoid hyperinsulinism converting to diabetes by switching over to
Atkins diet. It basically involves having a diet low in carbohydrates so that there is no
increase in insulin level in the blood. By controlling the amount of carbohydrates you
consume, you can ensure that your pancreas functions normally. Also, if you have
still not reached the hyperinsulinism stage, you can avoid becoming a pre-diabetic by
ensuring that you eat just good carbohydrates and avoid sugars that can cause a
spike in insulin levels. With proper combination of good carbohydrates, proteins and
fats, you will be able to control your blood sugar levels effectively.
